In a groundbreaking initiative, INSEAD has launched the “Negotiation Course for the World” (NCW), a free and accessible educational resource designed to equip individuals with the skills to navigate negotiations and manage conflicts more effectively. The course aims to democratise access to world-class negotiation education, helping people across the globe improve their lives, foster understanding, and build stronger relationships in their communities and workplaces.

Transforming Lives Through Negotiation Education

Education is a powerful tool for social change, and according to the INSEAD Negotiation and Conflict Management Collaborative (NCMC), providing free access to negotiation and conflict management resources has the potential to reduce social and economic inequality. Negotiation lies at the core of resolving conflicts, and the skills taught in this course aim to foster a more peaceful, collaborative, and prosperous world,” said Roderick Swaab, Professor of Organisational Behaviour and co-founder of the NCMC.

Negotiation and conflict management are vital skills in today’s interconnected world, where disagreements and misunderstandings often divide people, communities, and organisations. By equipping more individuals with the tools and strategies to negotiate effectively, the NCMC believes it is fostering positive change at a global level.

Free, High-Quality Resources for Educators Worldwide

The NCW provides a complete set of teaching resources, featuring detailed lesson plans, lecture slides, exercises, case studies, and forthcoming train-the-trainer videos. These resources are available at no cost, ensuring that anyone, regardless of their location or financial resources, can teach evidence-based negotiation techniques.

Eric Uhlmann, Professor of Organisational Behaviour and co-founder of the NCMC, highlighted the global impact of this initiative: “This is about much more than just negotiation. We want to empower people by equipping educators worldwide with the tools to make a real difference in their communities and institutions. By providing high-quality resources, we hope to contribute to reducing inequality and building stronger, more collaborative societies.”

Collaboration and Global Accessibility

The NCW is the result of years of work and collaboration between the NCMC, researchers, and practitioners from across the globe. Contributions from experts like Martin Schweinsberg, formerly of INSEAD and now at ESMT, have shaped the course content, creating an inclusive and forward-thinking approach to teaching negotiation.

The NCMC is committed to fostering a collaborative environment that encourages experimentation and innovation in negotiation education. In addition to offering free resources, the NCMC invites researchers from diverse fields to join this global movement, sharing their knowledge and improving the course materials.

To ensure the course is accessible to as many people as possible, INSEAD will translate the NCW materials into 130 languages, a process made possible through AI-powered translation tools developed by INSEAD professor Phil Parker.

Building a Global Community of Negotiation Educators

The overarching goal of the NCW is to create positive change through the widespread adoption of effective negotiation practices. By supporting a global network of educators, the NCMC aims to empower individuals to tackle personal, professional, and societal challenges through win-win negotiations that lead to lasting peace, collaborative relationships, and shared value.

Horacio Falcao, Professor of Management Practice of Decision Sciences and co-founder of the NCMC, emphasised: “The NCW is about creating sustained value in society through collaborative, peaceful relationships. By supporting educators worldwide, we can empower individuals and institutions to overcome challenges through better negotiations.”
