Award for Services to Working Women

Entrepreneur and property developer Mandy St John Davey has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list for her services to working women. Known for her advocacy for women in property and construction, Mandy’s recognition highlights her significant contributions to these sectors.

Championing Women in a Male-Dominated Industry

Mandy St John Davey, a leading property developer, has been awarded an MBE in recognition of her commitment to advancing opportunities for working women. Residing in Aberdare, South Wales, Mandy has spent over 25 years navigating and excelling in predominantly male-dominated industries. Her career has been marked by her efforts to make these fields more accessible and supportive for women.

I am truly honoured and humbled to receive this award for my work supporting women,” Mandy said. Throughout my career, I’ve been in industries with few role models. For much of that time, I had to figure things out for myself.

A Commitment to Supporting Women in Construction

Mandy’s commitment to supporting women in business is evident through her various voluntary roles. She has built a successful property portfolio and actively encouraged women in construction and property. As a former national Chair of Women in Property, Mandy used her platform to promote gender equality and support women in the industry.

“I am grateful for the opportunity I had as national Chair for Women in Property,” Mandy said. “It allowed me to support women in property at a more strategic level. Assisting and empowering other women in business has naturally become a core part of my role.

Ongoing Efforts for Gender Equality

Mandy remains dedicated to addressing ongoing gender disparities in the workplace. With the UK facing a construction skills shortage in 2024, she emphasises the need to inspire and encourage young women to enter the industry. Mandy is committed to tackling issues such as the gender pay gap, pensions gap, and unconscious bias.

“In 2024, and with a UK construction skills shortage, it’s more important than ever to inspire and encourage young females into the industry,” Mandy said. We must persist in addressing the gender pay gap, pensions gap, and unconscious bias to advance fairness and equality for all women.

A Proud Moment

Mandy St John Davey’s MBE is a significant recognition of her contributions. The award, which stands for Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, is the third highest ranking Order of the British Empire award, recognising outstanding contributions to the community.

“When the letter arrived marked On His Majesty’s Service, I read it a dozen times to be sure. Keeping this secret from my family and friends for several weeks has been difficult, but this is one of the greatest honours of my life,” Mandy shared.
