Groundbreaking Joint Venture Elevates UAE’s Space Industry

Abu Dhabi-based Marlan Space, a new entity affiliated with International Holding Company (IHC), has partnered with Loft Orbital to establish Orbitworks, marking a historic milestone as the first private satellite production company in the Middle East. This joint venture represents a major advancement in the UAE’s rapidly evolving space sector, setting a precedent for future developments in space technology within the region.

Orbitworks to Lead in Low Earth Orbit Satellite Production

Orbitworks is poised to become a key player in the production of commercial low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations. With an initial investment exceeding $100 million, the company aims to manufacture up to fifty 500 kg satellites each year. Loft Orbital, established in 2017, brings extensive expertise and a proven track record in satellite technology, supporting a broad spectrum of missions including telecommunications, earth observation, and scientific research. This partnership will leverage Loft Orbital’s advanced technologies and Marlan Space’s regional insights to revolutionise satellite production.

State-of-the-Art Facility to Boost Satellite Integration and Testing

Construction of Orbitworks’ cutting-edge facility is set to commence soon, featuring advanced hardware, software, and industrial technologies for the integration and testing of satellites. This state-of-the-art facility will be crucial for ensuring the highest standards of satellite production. Orbitworks has already procured components for its initial batch of ten satellites, with the inaugural satellite launch anticipated as early as the first quarter of 2026. This timeline aligns with Loft Orbital’s vision of rapidly deploying payloads to orbit, thereby accelerating the availability of satellite services.

Local and Global Partnerships to Enhance Technology Integration

As part of its strategy, Orbitworks will engage with local component manufacturers and technology providers in the UAE, creating opportunities for collaboration and technological advancement. By integrating Loft Orbital’s solutions, Orbitworks aims to achieve seamless technology deployment and foster innovation. The first satellite platform is expected to be assembled, integrated, and tested by early 2025. Recruitment efforts are actively underway, targeting both international experts and local talent in hardware, software, test engineering, and other aerospace disciplines.

Aligning with UAE’s Advanced AI Ecosystem

The advanced AI ecosystem in the UAE is set to be a key driver in the operations of Orbitworks. The company plans to collaborate with AI firms and research institutions to facilitate a streamlined pathway for deploying applications to orbit. This initiative aligns with the UAE’s broader goals of integrating advanced technologies and enhancing its space capabilities. By working closely with AI and tech innovators, Orbitworks aims to contribute to the country’s ambition of becoming a global leader in space technology.
