Caxton Travel Card is helping to make travel smoother and more enjoyable with expert travel hacks. From clever packing techniques to must-have gadgets, seasoned travellers have shared their best tips to help ensure a stress-free journey.

In celebration of the launch of the new online Caxton Travel Shop, the payment firm conducted a survey of 625 frequent flyers, who revealed their top travel hacks – some of which are surprisingly simple but incredibly effective. These tips cover everything from using dental floss as a clothesline to the wonders of baby powder in sandy destinations.

Travel Security: Peace of Mind on the Go

Security remains a top concern for modern travellers, with many looking for ways to safeguard their belongings and ensure peace of mind. According to Caxton’s survey, 15% of frequent flyers use luggage tracking, while 27% opt for RFID-blocking wallets to protect their cards from electronic theft. Some take extra precautions with GPS tracking devices (12%), travel door alarms (4%), and portable safes (2%). In addition, products like the PacSafe Bag Protector help to prevent valuables from being stolen, while the Tile Mate Bluetooth Finder allows you to track your personal items easily across all platforms.

Airport Lounges and In-flight Comfort: Essentials for a Smooth Journey

Long-haul flights and multiple stopovers have highlighted the importance of carry-on luggage essentials for ensuring comfort and convenience. According to the survey, 55% of frequent flyers bring tablets or e-readers, 35% opt for noise-cancelling headphones, and 33% pack socks to keep their feet warm. Sleep masks (20%), travel pillows (19%), and scarves (11%) are also popular items to help ease the travel experience. Some even pack swimwear to ensure they don’t miss a day by the pool if their luggage goes missing!

Staying Connected and Powered Up: Tech Essentials

With the rise of tech-savvy travellers, staying connected and powered up is now more important than ever. The survey found that 70% of frequent flyers carry portable chargers, 55% pack tablets and e-readers, and 35% bring noise-cancelling headphones. Other must-have tech gadgets include Smartwatches (30%), digital cameras (25%), and travel-friendly power strips (9%). To ensure reliable connectivity, many travellers also take MiFis abroad.

Frequent Flyers’ Recommended Travel Apps

Modern travellers rely on a variety of apps to simplify their journeys. Popular route planners include Komoot, Google Maps, and Waze, while guide apps such as Tripadvisor, GetYourGuide, and Viator are highly rated. For language assistance, Google Translate supports up to 133 languages, and getting around is easier with apps like Ouigo, Trainline, and Uber. The Caxton currency card app is recommended for managing travel money, and for dietary needs, apps like Zabiha (for halal) and Happy Cow (for vegetarian) are popular.

8 Offbeat Travel Hacks from Frequent Flyers

In addition to standard travel tips, frequent flyers also shared some quirky hacks that can come in handy on the go:

  1. Dental floss: A great tool for repairing glasses and even serves as a clothesline.
  2. Baby powder: Perfect for removing sand from your feet after a day at the beach.
  3. Doorstop: An effective way to prevent anyone from entering your hotel room.
  4. Mini wearable waist fan: A handy device to keep you cool while on the move.
  5. Mobile luggage scale: Helps avoid excess baggage fees by weighing your luggage before check-in.
  6. Ribbon for luggage: Easily identify your bags by tying a brightly coloured ribbon to the handle.
  7. Excess luggage: Consider using specialist courier services like Send My Bag, Sherpr, and Luggage Mule for bulky or extra luggage.
  8. Fuel: Use a pre-paid travel card instead of a bank card to avoid long reservation holds at petrol stations.
