Smart Energy Solutions Take Center Stage at The Smarter E Europe 2025

Munich is set to become the global hub for integrated energy solutions as The Smarter E Europe 2025 takes place from 7 to 9 May at Messe München. Under the motto ‘Accelerating Integrated Energy Solutions’, the event will highlight the critical role of smart energy management in the evolving energy and mobility sectors. With rising energy costs and increasing demand for sustainable solutions, integrating photovoltaic (PV) storage, e-mobility, and smart grids is no longer a luxury it is a necessity.

The European Home Energy Management System (HEMS) market is projected to grow 11-fold by 2030 across major markets, including Denmark, Germany, the UK, and Italy. This reflects the rapid adoption of smart energy technologies driven by evolving regulations and the need for grid stability. As energy systems become more interconnected, efficient energy distribution and management will play a crucial role in ensuring sustainable progress.

Regulatory and Market Drivers for Smart Energy Management

New policies, such as Section 14a of Germany’s Energy Industry Act (EnWG), are changing the way electricity is distributed and consumed. These regulations allow grid operators to manage the power output of heat pumps, EV chargers, and battery storage systems. Such measures aim to ease grid congestion while supporting the transition to renewable energy sources.

For businesses and homeowners, the implementation of advanced Energy Management Systems (EMS) offers significant advantages. These systems help optimise energy usage, lower costs, and reduce reliance on conventional power grids. With intelligent automation, users can control how and when they consume electricity, ensuring maximum efficiency without sacrificing comfort.

However, interoperability between different energy management platforms remains a challenge. While some manufacturers develop closed systems, industry leaders are advocating for open standards that allow seamless integration across various technologies. The OpenEMS Association, established in 2018, has been instrumental in promoting software solutions that facilitate independent and manufacturer-neutral energy management systems.

Key Sessions at The Smarter E Europe 2025

The event will host expert-led discussions, including a focus session presented by pv magazine on 8 May 2025. Attendees will gain insights into best practices for photovoltaic (PV) and storage projects, covering both small-scale residential solutions and large-scale industrial applications. The session, scheduled at the ICM – International Congress Center Messe München, room 13, will run from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, with separate German and English discussions tailored to different audiences.

In addition, The Smarter E Forum will hold a dedicated session on home energy management systems (HEMS) on 9 May 2025. Starting at 1:30 pm, this discussion will explore the critical role of HEMS in modern energy networks and how they contribute to stabilising power grids while enhancing efficiency.

Munich Becomes the Global Energy Hub

From 7–9 May 2025, Messe München will host one of the most anticipated global energy exhibitions. With over 3,000 exhibitors and more than 110,000 visitors expected, the event will showcase innovative solutions for a decentralised, digitalised, and flexible energy future. Spanning 206,000 square meters across 19 exhibition halls and an outdoor area, The Smarter E Europe 2025 will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and technology pioneers to shape the future of energy.
