76% Concerned About the Environment, 66% Want to Act for a More Sustainable Society, 56% Believe Their Future Job Will Be Tech-Related
As students across the UK head back to school for the new academic year, a clear focus has emerged on shaping their futures with an emphasis on sustainability, inclusivity, and technology. Data from GoStudent, a leading tutoring provider, highlights that students are increasingly aware of the challenges they will face and are calling for a greater emphasis on these crucial topics within their education.
Students’ Call for Change
The GoStudent Future of Education Report 2024 provides significant insights into the evolving priorities of UK students. A substantial 76% express deep concern about environmental issues, underscoring a growing awareness and sense of urgency regarding climate change. Additionally, 66% of students are eager to contribute to creating a more sustainable and inclusive society. This generation is not just aware but also anticipates a significant role for innovation in their futures, with 56% believing that their future careers will be directly linked to technology.
In 2023, students’ top career aspirations included roles in healthcare and technology. The rapid pace of advancement in these fields, combined with the traditional education system’s focus on theoretical knowledge over practical skills, has led to a notable concern. Specifically, 37% of students feel that their current educational environment does not adequately equip them with the skills needed to pursue their ideal career paths.
The Need for Personalised Education
With 69% of students expressing a desire for more guidance in navigating their future career choices, there is a pressing need to personalise education. By integrating practical experiences, expert mentorship, and hands-on learning opportunities, the education system can better align with students’ aspirations and emerging industry trends. This approach could bridge the gap between students’ career goals and their current educational experiences.
GoStudent’s Commitment to Empowering Students
In response to these insights, GoStudent has expanded its support for students through its personalised education programmes. The company is excited to announce the availability of 50 scholarships across Europe, designed to empower students by providing them with tailored, one-on-one tutoring that addresses their specific needs and career goals.
Felix Ohswald, CEO and Co-founder of GoStudent, emphasises, “Education is the most powerful tool in a person’s arsenal. Today’s students are not only passionate but also deeply concerned about global issues. Our scholarship programme aims to support these students in reaching their full potential. With the right guidance and support, every student has the opportunity to turn their dreams into reality.”
Scholarship Selection Process
The UK scholarship recipients will be chosen by a distinguished three-member jury. This panel includes Felix Ohswald, CEO and Co-founder of GoStudent; Michael McKoy, former schoolteacher and GoStudent’s UK Tutor of the Year; and Mya Medina, Regional Head of Customer and Tutor Operations at GoStudent. The jury will evaluate applications based on the clarity of the student’s aspirations, the expected impact of the tutoring support, and the passion demonstrated by the applicants.
Mya Medina expresses her enthusiasm, stating, “I am excited to join the judging panel and help identify students who will benefit from additional educational support. Education is a powerful tool that opens doors to a brighter future and paves the way for success.”
Michael McKoy adds, “This scholarship represents a significant opportunity to make a positive difference in a child’s life. By helping students develop their learning potential, we can foster confidence and a lifelong curiosity for learning.”
