LAIKA is celebrating the remarkable success of its 15th anniversary re-release of the acclaimed 2009 stop-motion animated film Coraline. The film, now available in newly remastered 3D, has exceeded box office expectations with over $20 million in global ticket sales since its return to theaters on August 15th. The limited engagement, presented by Fathom in the U.S. and Trafalgar Releasing internationally, is available in both 3D and 2D formats.
Exceptional Box Office Performance
Coraline has earned $12,526,116 in the U.S. and $7,646,357 internationally, totaling $20,172,473 worldwide. It was the #4 film at the domestic box office and achieved notable positions globally:
- #2 in Guatemala and El Salvador
- #3 in Mexico, Chile, Peru
- #4 in the U.S., Costa Rica, Bolivia, and Honduras
- #5 in the UK/Ireland, Argentina, Colombia, and Panama
In Mexico, Coraline set a record for the highest number of tickets sold for a re-release, with over 700,000 tickets sold during the opening weekend and an expected total of 1 million admissions. This result surpasses the previous record held by Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2021).
Expanded International Run
Due to the film’s success, Trafalgar Releasing has added additional international markets:
- Philippines (8/28-9/3 and 9/25-9/30)
- Dominican Republic (starting 8/22)
- Ecuador (starting 8/22)
- Chile and Peru (starting 8/22)
- France (11/9 – 11/10)
The film will continue to run in key territories including Mexico, the UK & Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
